The dawn of spring is a great time to give your home a spruce-up. Outlined below are five simple things you can do to get your home looking clean and tidy, both inside and out.

1: Deep clean the carpets/floors

Your floors, notably the areas near the front and back doors, will probably have taken a battering over the winter months courtesy of wet and muddy boots/shoes.

If you have hard flooring, you can use a vacuum for detritus and then use a mop or wet sponge for some spot cleaning.

If you have carpets throughout, you can either get professional carpet cleaners in, use a carpet steam cleaner, or spray a solution of soapy water over the carpet and dry it with towels.

2: Check and clean gutters and drains

These can be damaged/blocked due to exposure to climatic conditions. You can either get a professional to inspect and clean these or attempt to do it yourself.

Replacing copper pipe

If, following an inspection, you decide that you need to replace some of your pipes, you can get copper pipe from Watkins and Powis or other well-regarded suppliers.

3: Tidy/revamp the garden

Early spring is a great time to give everything a trim, remove leaves, add a layer of compost, and repair any damage to your fences or shed/greenhouse. You can also consider cleaning and treating any wooden furniture.

4: Make your windows shine

Prepare for the spring and summer sunshine by giving your windows a good wash and clean. You could ask a professional to do the outside ones while you do the interior ones, or do both yourself.

You can make a simple window cleaning solution using water and either white vinegar or washing-up liquid.

5: Clean your bathroom extractor fan

A crucial tool in the prevention of damp and mould, it is important to clean this fan. Doing so in the early spring will ensure any dirt and blockages that have accumulated over the winter are cleared for the warmer months.
