There are a number of expenses that business owners and sole traders and the self employed, will need to ensure that they manage in order to offset them against any sales that have been made. One such expense is that of travel mileage. It is an important expense to ensure that you include, but it can be one that is tricky to manage. If you work with a Bookkeepers Hereford way they will  be able to give you some advice on how you can best manage your mileage. Here are a few ideas for you to get started.

Little box – if you want something simple, you could buy yourself a small notebook and keep it in the glove compartment of your car. Everytime you make a journey that is business related you can note down your start and finish mileage.

Maps – if you would rather make a note of your mileage during a set time each month, you might want to make a note of your business journeys in a diary and then use a SatNav or Google Maps to tell you what the overall mileage of your journey has been.

Software – some of the cloud accounting software options such as Quickbooks and Xero allow you to account for mileage directly in the apps that can be downloaded on your mobile phone or tablets. This means that you can register your mileage when you arrive at your destination and then again when you get back home or to your office.
